There are only four P-61 ‘Black Widow’ night fighters in existence. All but one of these survivors are on permanent static display in museums.
The fourth ‘Black Widow’ is the subject of an epic recovery and restoration project that begin in 1979 and was led by WWII veteran Eugene “Pappy” Strine, co-founder of the Mid Atlantic Air Museum, until his passing in June of 2018. The restoration is currently being led by his son, Russell Strine, co-founder of the Mid Atlantic Air Museum.
That P-61B ‘Black Widow’ remained on top of Mt. Cyclops until 1991.
